12th Avenue to rock the City

Bellville Band 12th Avenue will be rocking the stage for six of the City’s World Cup events.
They were chosen alongside 158 other acts during the City’s audition process, and are the only original rock act on the list.
Mark Haze, the band’s lead vocalist, says the process was a lot like pop idols.
He says acts had five minutes to setup and five minutes to play.
Brain Lee, the band’s bassist says: “It’s exciting to be able to do something that’s affiliated to Fifa.”
As Haze points out, the events will give them exposure to an international audience, without them having to travel overseas.
!2th Avenue played their first show in September 2001 and have gone through various line-ups since.
They had moderate success with their debut album, Crazy, and Insane soon after.
Haze says it got to a point where they were playing 28 shows in 30 days.
“We were literally throwing ideas around in sound checks,” he says.
Gareth Haze, the band’s drummer, recalls how after playing seven shows in five days on an East coast tour, he fell asleep behind the drums.
“Nothing decent was coming out in terms of material,” says Mark.
So the band took a break to recoup.
It was at a braai together, that they decided to take to the stage together again.
They are now managed by Hayden Music, who mark says recognises their need to be able to communicate with their fans.
Hayden Music have helped them use social networking platforms to do this.
They are also sponsored by Paul Bothners.

12th Avenue have a busy few months ahead of them.
They hope to go into studio in July to record a new track that will be released as a single.
They hope to release a full new album next year and are planning an acoustic album.
The band will be touring to Windhoek at the end of July and Gauteng in August.
They will be fitting in a garden Route tour before the end of the year.
12th Avenue will be playing six World Cup shows.
